Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

If you want a more authentic taste of Mexican, this dive is a sure-fire bet. Found this place about 5 years ago, and I try to make it back as often as I can. This is a warning though: don't expect chips and salsa, cheese dip, or guacamole. Think of this as an equivalent of comfort food. All sodas come out of a bottle (glass bottle from Mexico if it is a Coke, Sprite, or Fanta), and they make great horchata. Three things you must order while here: Chorizo - a Mexican sausage filled with amazing spices and can be found in the burrito or taco. Burritos are huge, so be careful, as are the large quesadillas. The size-to-price ratio for the quesadilla is amazing, and you can easily make a meal out of one quesadilla. Order tacos if you want a taste of their other meats, such as asada (steak), pollo (chicken), carnitas (pork), or even the pork tongue (okay, maybe not for the faint of heart, but it is pretty tasty). Ceviche - if you are familiar with this dish, it is amazing here. Not a huge helping, but for $1.99, it is a great addition to your meal. For those of you unfamiliar, think of it as a seafood pico de gallo - the fish, a white fish and shrimp, is marinated in a citrus juice (lime/lemon) and thus "cooks" out all the bacteria. Served on a tostada, it is one of my favorite items on the menu. Horchata - a sweetened rice milk drink with cinnamon, this is a great Mexican beverage that is perfect with a authentic Mexican meal. If you've never had one before, or you're turning up your nose reading this, please try this.

The most authentic mexican tacos in town! Awesome quesadillas and menudo on the weekends. My children loves the horchata! And the price it's super affordable.

Food is amazing, the connected meat, produce, and mini grocery store is very good as well..bought aome of the seasoned beef and grilled it at home and it was so freah. I loved this place so much I went there 4 times in 3 days.

Great food, always love it here. Great staff, they try their best with their limited English. The cook is great, food always taste the same with no variation from a visit to the next. No chips and salsa but you can buy a bag if chips from the store section but food is quick and probably you will not need the chips. Portions are extremely generous. The plates are plastic and have lots of scratches on them. I'd say this is as close to authentic as you can get in N. Little Rock.

Great food and good atmosphere. Gets the best out of your money. The music and the food make the place feel comfortable, and the food is amazing. The quesadilla and the tortas are the best, not to mention its also a little store of its own. Its small, but convenient.

This location was referred to my by a co-worker of mine, and did he hit the nail on the head!!! This place is absolutely amazing. The service is always helpful and attentive. You walk in, seat yourself, and they bring over a menu and take your drink order. You can also order beer here from the little market they have inside(pretty awesome if you ask me). The location of the restaurant is not the best looking, but most holes in the wall are not. I have not felt unsafe by going to this restaurant at all, even when I have ventured alone. The food has a very fresh and authentic taste, considering we are in central AR. Of course this is not going to taste as if we were at an authentic restaurant in another county. Anyone who claims this food is subpar is obviously a snob that does not take location into account and is blatantly wrong. I will be returning here many more times for their great service and delicious food!

This is one of those whole in the wall joints, owned by a family. Legit al pastor tacos, though I've had better. I give it 4 stars for the amount of food you get for the price. The food came out really fast as well. We ordered chicken nachos (the cheese was fake cheese which was a disappointment), 2 al pastor tacos, and a steak plate which came with tortillas. Way too much food for the 2 of us, so definitely don't over order!

Holy moly that was a great lunch. I couldnt decide what to get because everything coming out of the kitchen looked so good. Unpretentious, friendly, a bit divey :) but the food is delicious, plentiful and easy on the wallet.

Cheap and delicious tacos north of I-630. I went here during lunch and it was busy with with the kitchen busy but I got my food in less than ten minutes. I would recommend getting the asada (steak) tacos and the the al pastor (pork) tacos with onions and cilantro. If you have time to kill, there is a decent selection of baked goods in the market attached to the restaurant.

This is THE best Mexican food in the area. The tacos were authentic street style. They had your regular meats etc. But they also have cheek and tongue. So delicious! I fed my family of 3 for $17. And there was a lot of food. Plus I ordered a coke. It was a legit coke from Mexico in the TALL glass bottle. Old school authenticity! Go here if you want GOOD home style Mexican food.

What? A Taqueria in North Little Rock? We travel through Little Rock all the time and it's usually around lunch time or dinner. There is one place I'm always up for and its this place!!! I actually have made some excuses just to come through town and get some lunch. Where do I start? The tacos & burritos are awesome, if your feeling frisky try the gorditas!!! It's fresh and the closest thing to a Los Angeles taco truck you will find...but better!
(5)Christian S.
I am from Texas and go to Mexico often It was good food good micheladas for a great price. I will be back for the menudo this weekend. Only thing is they need to turn on the heater super cold don't know if it was out or don't have one thats why i give it only 4 stars.
(4)Megan R.
Love their food. Addicted! So delish. Everything I've had so far is great. If your like authenticity, try it, you'll love it....yummmmm. Waiting on my chorizo tacos now .
(5)P W.
It was okay, but not great. I had the chicken quesadilla and my friends had burritos. We all agreed it was not the best Mexican food we've ever had, but it was okay.
(2)Dusty R.
This is the most amazing and authentic place in the LR metro area for Mexican cuisine. I come here at least once a week for lunch or dinner. The food is awesome, inexpensive and the people are friendly. Love this place! Tip: Order the Agua de Jamaica. It's the best north of the border
(5)Josue C.
Stopped at this little establishment for breakfast and let me tell you it was worth it. The place itself is a small but the cleanliness stands out. I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was delicious. So if your close by stop here highly recommend it.
(4)Jesse S.
Don't let the $3.99 huaraches or $4.99 burritos fool you. It's allotta food. Pretty tasty also.
(4)Becca T.
Love this place. I love everything about it. The food is fantastic!
(5)Jamie D.
Got the pastor burrito. Very flavorful and the amount of burrito you get for the price is amazing.
(5)Darrell A.
Steak fajitas were tender. You could tell the food was cooked fresh. And from the clientele, I would guess authentic!
(4)Saul K.
One of the better authentic Mexican restaurants in LR. I've tried pretty much everything on their menu, from tacos to burritos and from bistec to menudo. Tacos are supercheap, which makes me get them every time and even when I don't, I feel bad because I feel like I didnt go for the bargain. Burritos are not that good because they put too much beans in it and tortas are kinda dry. Safe bet is tacos and gorditas (gorditas are super crispy). Other than that, menudo is ok if you put tons of lime in it and bistec is ok although I was left impressed by the value. Their michelada (beer with tabasco, tomato juice, worcestershire and lime/salt) was pretty good too. Summarily, this is my go-to place for authentic taquitos because of the value and proximity to where I live/work.

Good food, great Horchatas - looks a bit rough from the outside but overall worth checking out!
(4)T. C.
Is it pretty and touristy...nope! Is it a great place to get a FULL meal for your money...HELL YEAH! If you're scared of dining where hard working people (read:outdoor workers) then you'll never be comfortable here. Get over yourself because you're missing good food. Unlike chain restaurants this authentic, no chips and salsa for fillers. Everything is made to order including the Talapia plate...beware its still looking at you when it comes to the table. But it was fresh, and delish!! As you get ready to leave stop at the freezer and get you an authentic frozen treat, I had the strawberry cream popsicle yesterday. It took me back to hot summers in Los Angeles and chasing down the ice cream cart.

I've been eating here for years. It's always consistently good. Service is so-so but the food always hits the spot.
(4)E D.
The food here is great. They serve an excellent chicken burrito and sweet horchata. - 7/28/2010

great freaking tacos. need better AC and could be a little cleaner but great freaking tacos. eat here often.

I am a fan of some highly rated mexican restaurants like La Hacienda in the Little Rock area, but the best and most authentic is Taqueria Guadalajara. It is set off of the road and has a mexican grocery attached, so its easily overlooked. The most amazingly fresh and authentic mexican food! The atmosphere is not the reason to go here, but wait staff are friendly and attentive. I reccomend the burritos, chicken, pork, chorizo, steak amongst others.

This place is the most authentic Taqueria I've ever been to... You know its authentic when... THEY DON'T EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH! well they do, but barely.. Thank goodness i had a Spanish speaking friend with me... it made it so much easier to order. Don't be discouraged though its well worth dealing with it. First off.... It looks like a ghetto little Mexican shop for groceries. Well it is, but its attached to a Taqueria. A little intimidating seeing everyone in there was Mexican or Latino. I'm use to it though being from California. I didn't know what to order so ... i stared at the menu.. the burrito was like 3 bucks I'm like... this must be so small... so i get a barbocoa burrito and a steak.. horchata or something? something similar it was like a pizza. I'm pretty sure horchata is the rice drink which i heard from my friends was amazing there. And so .. we waited - the cashier/ waitress was very nice. Atmosphere was ehhh , its like being in a Mexicans house. no offense to anyone . i used to live with some when i was little. When i saw the burrito my eyes exploded.... ( no not literally) haha . Why you ask ? ... because it was freaking HUGE! like ... i was like... this is 3 $ worth? this is like 6$! ... what was funny was that. it was so authentic... that it had no rice or all the other crap Americanized Mexican shops are... Delicious.. plus i was craving it so it was a big bonus.. It was so juicy.. i made a pool of meat sauce on my wax paper ... None the less.. the Results atmosphere 3/5 Burrito 5/5 horchata 4/5 service 5/5 Thought they didn't accept card.. but they do so don't be fooled! Like I said if you want authentic come here... its perfect for that real Mexican taste..

Burritos are great, tortas are great, quesdillas are great, gorditas are great. Other highlights are the Caldo De Res (a beef stew soup), and Carnitas (roast pork plate). The only thing i've had that wasn't good was the nachos, they were like ball-park nachos with good meat, salty round tortilla chips and yellow cheese from a can. FAST service. Good food. cheap prices. Be sure and tell the lady at the cash register to add the tip, because once they swipe the credit card they can no longer add a tip.

Everything that I have had from here has been good! Great place to eat and it doesn't hurt your pockets either!
(4)Michelle B.
First off, I just want to say that for Little Rock, this is a really good taco shop, but I've experienced much better so that's why I've given it 3 stars. The place looks very ghetto, not that it has any effect on me, but it's a great place to get some good grub for really cheap. I ordered two carne asada tacos with cilantro and onions and a barbocoa burrito. The tacos were ok. I had WAY better at La Regional off Baseline. The barbocoa burrito was ok as well. I wasn't crazy about it. What I did like though was how huge the burrito was for it's price. They really hook it up with the meat on those burritos! But, if you want to get the really good authentic mexican food, I gotta say that La Regional has it, hands down!

Found this place on Yelp! earlier today and wanted to give it a try, so I went with the wife for dinner tonight. The facilities were exactly as described by other reviewers: cafeteria-type place attached to a grocery store, hole-in-the-wall. and the walls were covered with a faux sponge-paint wallpaper in green and a yellowish white. you order at the counter, which I did after taking a few minutes to read through the menu. I got the Horchata (which I had only tried once before), a barbacoa gordita, and the cheese nacho chico. My wife got the taco al pastor, cheese quesadilla and diet coke (no iced tea). The horchata was sweet, mildly citrus-y, and vaugely starchy. I enjoyed it. the nachos were very simple cheese + tortilla chips. identical to what you'd get in a baseball park. the gordita was nice. mildly spiced pork butt with crumbled queso freso (I think), lettuce, tomato, and beans. All stuffed into a thick tortilla which was split open like a pita. My wife felt her taco was too bland, but rather enjoyed the quesadilla. it was definitely an out-of-the-ordinary experience for us and I will certainly be back, and will try (almost) everything on the menu. Hopefully, it will become a regular destination.

As said before, the atmosphere is not that great, actually kinda poor I think. I'm a little intimidated to go there by myself. But the food.... the food! Very authentic, simple, and delish! The price can't be beat! The burritos are really good, even fresh slices of avocado- no cheap guacamole from a jar here! They sell Mexican cokeacola (which is different from American coke!), and have a Mexican bakery. The bakery items are authentic and sweet! Last I went, they were 3 for a dollar...come on, does it get better than that?!? Under the pastry case they have plastic trays, get a tray and a pair of tongs, put your selections on the tray and take it to the register, they ring it up and bag it for you. Bottom line.... GO! And if you are a little intimidated by the culture shock, just bring a friend :-)

I think this is a gem for authentic Mexican food in NLR. The tacos were a bit more bland than I prefer but they have some of the BEST salsas around. Nice bakery, meat market, and small grocery. Good food.
(4)J A.
Great, simple fare. If you order the beef soup, be sure to add the onion, cilantro, and lime. Hubby had the large chorizo quesadilla and raved about it. It was huge and the toasted flour tortilla was sublime. The Mexican coca cola in the glass bottle was a treat.

Simple, unpretentious, no-frill, authentic Mexican food. The "no-frill" means no free chips with salsa; if you ask for chips they offer nachos covered with ballpark style suspiciously yellow melted cheese and pickled jalapeno slices on the side. The tacos are $1.09 each; there are several filling choices including el porton, brisket (barbarcoa), tongue, chicken. a "not very hungry" adult could get by with two tacos; one with an appetite would require more. One of our group had a brisket plate which came with rice and beans, grilled onion and jalapeno. Our overall rating consensus was a 3 on a 5 point scale.
